British Soprano Gemma Summerfield graduated from the Royal College of Music International Opera Studio in 2016. Continuing to work closely with Rosa Mannion she has enjoyed honing her craft across a wide range of repertoire. On the Operatic Stage Gemma has performed Fiordiligi|Così fan Tutte, Gretel|Hänsel und Gretel (Pictured left; Copyright Chris Christodoulou), Ginevra|Ariodante, Rosalinde|Die Fledermaus, First Lady|Die Zauberflöte, Donna Elvira|Don Giovanni, Barmherzigkeit| Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots (Mozart) Hyacinthus|Apollo et Hyacinthus (Mozart), Berenice|Il Vologeso (Jomelli) and covered Rodelinda|Rodelinda (English National Opera).
This season will see Gemma cover Michal in Saul for Glyndebourne and sing Paula Jordan in Wexford Festival Opera's presentation of the European Premiere of Wiliam Bolcom's Dinner at Eight and Pamina in Sir Thomas Allen's revival of his acclaimed staging of The Magic Flute for Scottish Opera
Gemma consistently proves her capabilities on platforms around the world. Recent Oratorio Performances include Beethoven in Switzerland (Pictured Left in Victoria Hall, Geneva), Bach in Beirut and Mozart in Westminster Abbey. Opera experience includes Donna Elvira in Verbier, Rodelinda at English National Opera and Gala Concerts in Tuscany. Using competition platforms to regularly cement her standing amongst her peers, Gemma 'swept the board' at the 2015 Kathleen Ferrier Awards winning both 1st Prize and the Loveday Song Prize for her performance of Sibelius's 'Flickan kom ifrån sin älsklings möte' and most recently was the only British finalist in the inaugural Glyndebourne Cup and the Concours Musical International de Montreal.
Also a Yeoman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians having been awarded the Silver Medal, Gemma is a Carne Scholar, an Associate Artist with Classical Opera, a Countess of Munster Recital Scheme Artist and is also an active participant with Live Music Now.
